About Summit Printing

Our Story

After moving to Utah from Chicago in 1972, Jim Kanak took a job with a local printing company. Frustrated by the lack of quality products he could confidently offer his customers, he decided to build something better. In 1976, just four years after arriving in Utah, he founded Summit Printing — a name that reflected his goal of reaching the very “summit” of quality in the business forms industry.

What began as a single press on the back porch quickly gained momentum. Through hard work, craftsmanship, and a commitment to doing things right, Summit Printing grew into a thriving operation housed in a 38,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, becoming one of the area’s leading producers of business forms.

In 1989, a 17-year-old named Paul Bartlett joined the company. Too young to operate equipment, he started by emptying trash, mowing lawns, and handling odd jobs. At the same time, he was enrolled in a high school printing class that allowed him to run a press under teacher supervision. Paul began on small sheet fed presses and later trained on web presses, working evenings while attending college during the day.

In 1991, Paul left Summit to serve a two-year mission in Virginia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he returned, he stepped back into the company — operating presses and eventually serving as Operations Manager.

In 1997, after a change in corporate structure, Paul was offered a choice between accounting and sales. He chose sales — a decision that would define the next chapter of his career. For almost three decades, he built strong customer relationships and played a key role in the company’s continued growth.

In 2024, Paul purchased Summit Printing and became its owner, carrying forward the vision Jim established nearly five decades earlier. That same year, Summit relocated its operations to Murray, Utah, where it proudly operates today — still striving to be the “Summit” of quality in the printing industry.
